Obbini Tumbao
website: http://www.obbinitumbao.com
Winner of the 2006 Phoenix Best Music Poll, as “Best World Music Act,” the group’s blend of Afro-Cuban music and North American jazz creates a body of work whose infectious rhythms will make you want to get up and dance! Rebecca Cline, jazz pianist from Athens, GA, and Ana Norgaard, also known as Anita Quinto, percussionist from Caracas, Venezuela, join forces to produce a compelling new sound with the wide range of musical influences they share. Obbini Tumbao’s repertoire includes a broad selection of beloved classics, as well as the band’s own compositions. The band’s frontline of trombones and lead/back-up vocals is supported by a rhythm section of congas, timbales, bongos, drumset, piano and bass. With an all-star band, Obbini Tumbao has made regular appearances at venues such as the Blue Note’s Regattabar and Ryles Jazz Club. A video of the band is also featured at Martin Cohen’s website www.congahead.com.
