They’ve had mad beef with the tastemakers over at Pitchfork, but that hasn’t stopped alt-country band Deer Tick from carving out a solid niche for themselves. The hard-drinking, Rhode Island–bred members liken themselves to a bar-rock band. And paired with singer John McCauley’s raspy, aged-way-beyond-his-twentysomething-years voice, their twangy, whiskey-soaked rock backs that assertion up. But they’re still indie through and through, their grizzled, country æsthetic mingling with some seriously hipster sensibilities (which isn’t a bad thing). They’ll be rocking out, and probably boozing, at Royale.
